With newgrounds deleting oneys account over Google docs but letting people like shmorky have theirs it's a daily reminder that the reason social media sites killed the niche internet is their owners usually don't have skin in the game.

They don't care about some gay internet beef they know you're using the site and they don't bring the baggage.
@PurpCat every niche forum ive ever been on has either melted down from mod/admin gayops or had the ownership get bored and stop paying for it.

@radians @PurpCat Newgrounds is one of the longest standing though. It's downright impressive. RPGMaker.net is another one I can think of that has been around for a very long time. It's definitely outlived any other rpg maker place.

@beardalaxy @radians @PurpCat RPGmaker.net has been hacked and lost every game it hosted as far as I know BUT there are 2 archives of the games.
One is on archive.org and the other is on a small german gaming forum.

If I had both links on my phone I'd post them right away.

@TheTeka @PurpCat @radians it didn't get hacked, it just went down for a while because the server finally passed away. they had been hosting it for free for quite some time because even though the server provider shut down all the stuff was still running, probably another company took over and just didn't wipe it quite yet or something. at least i'm pretty sure that's how the story goes. but yeah there's an archive.org entry for all of it.

now, though, it's up and running again just fine on a new server and there are a few people attempting to build a new version of the site but who knows if that will ever come to fruition.
