@ergo so yes, for most people. But I used an onion approach to registering a fake number for Signal.

1. Fake google account (this is not easy anymore, you can't make a Google account without a real number, and Google is making it hard to use disposable SIM card phone numbers, which is how I did it years ago)

2. Now get your Google Voice phone number

3. Use that to register on Signal

@ergo I agree, I was forced to by the organization I'm in, but you should avoid Signal if possible.

@Economic_Hitman @ergo it amuses me endlessly how many people use Signal without thinking it's remotely sus that the app went from simply being an encrypted SMS app to using servers without any kind of business model or paid tier. Back when it was called Text Secure you could see the garbled text right there in your regular SMS app so you knew it was working.
