Let me throw my hat into the ring on this "Live Service" games shit.

I really Wish Pirate Sortware/Thor would clarify that he was never a game dev at blizzard. He was on their security team and never developed games til much later
I agree with the side that's against games they payed for suddenly becoming unplayable with the caveat that the game had a meaningful singleplayer mode. Example: If it was The Divsion instead of The Crew causing this uproar they might have a leg to stand on.
Regardless of what side of the fence you're on I do 100% agree with him that government shouldn't get their greasy mitts anywhere near this issue, full fucking stop. Probably not for the same reasons. But that's irrelevant.
Uninformed users saying how easy it would be to allow private servers have no fucking clue what they are talking about.

tl;dr Yes live service games are both fake and gay, users are retarded, and government shouldn't get involved because everything they touch immediately gets even worse.

@Goalkeeper Considering people run private MMO servers, I call BS on the "it's too complicated" argument.

Consumer protection laws absolutely should address this.
Recognize the practice of "product as a service" for the fraud that it is.

It's not just about games, it's about software as a service like Adobe, and heated seats IN YOUR OWN CAR that you have to pay subscription for to activate.

And let's not forget pic related.
The law needs to address this.
Some things must be open sourced, or released under certain conditions, such as the company going bankrupt.
Abandonware at the very least should become freeware.

>Other people do it
Yeah sure nice non-argument. I never said it wasn't possible. Also I am not disagreeing with any of your other points. However, government ruins everything they touch and have never stopped companies from doing whatever the fuck they want. It's a fake solution.

@Goalkeeper You strongly implied that games that don't have a meaningful single-player component don't "have a leg to stand on".

I disagree.

And if the law forced companies to release their dedicated server software when a game is sunsetted, that will make things easier for hardcore fans who want to keep the community going, and mod in more content.
Keep their games alive, that they paid for, and invested time and money in.

>Oops we can't do that it's been ten years the code is gone.
So much for your "law"

@Goalkeeper Negligence can be sued for, and lifting of the veil is a thing.

You're so pathetically pessimistic, just kill yourself and be done with it.

I'm realistic. Daddy Government isn't going to save you. Seethe.

@Goalkeeper You're just a weakling faggot who fears to grip the sword, letting your enemies castrate you.

You literally want to give someone else the sword and say fight for me you stupid nigger.

Follow

@Goalkeeper You literally want to keep the sword in the hands of your enemies, you fucking kike fellater.

You're the one talking about getting the government involved are you brain damaged. I can’t wait for the inevitable “everyone wants to play but nobody wants to host”.

@Goalkeeper You're on the Fedi, where everyone wants an account, and no one wants to setup a server.
Yet here we are.

Stop being such a defeatist.

Outlaw lobbying and I will entertain your fucking stupidity.

@Goalkeeper @coded_artist These are complemented by those who wants to host and don't want to play.
@Goalkeeper @coded_artist Government is already involved faggot. That's why you can get sued for trying to preserve these games or bypass the digital locks. The genie is already out of the bottle and we want it to answer our wishes instead of some gay jewish multinational.
