You're not being fair here, the average person, even one who is politically engaged, is not cut from the same cloth as your average people mover / idea guy.
That's why every serious political party has strategists, and think-tanks.
Strategists are not regular people, and they can tell you what to do exactly, something you can't really expect to get from any normal person who's busy living, somewhat boxed into the life they know.
And yes, we do need a Hitler, or in other words, a leader.
A man made of yet another different cloth, no strategist or think-tank type can be a leader.
Cometh the man, cometh the hour, or vice versa, doesn't matter.
You need a strong man, a face to represent a movement.
Hope is not a strategy, and to get nothing but thoughts and prayers from people is frustrating, but that's all you can get from most people.
