@coded_artist I will suggest that under a money - based monetary system (coined metal by weight and fineness), to induce labor from private sector was pricey. Hence, Brit parliament ran a clean empire.
Today, under fiduciary monetary system of irredeemable bank note currency, labor is cheap. It is easy for parliament to monetize new debt issuance.
Govt work has become a form of high-paying welfare. It is not real work.
