@Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole I couldn't save Goemon on my N64 without a memory pack, so had to reset to the beginning every time our 2-day rental ran out. :crying:
@Type_Other @Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole People claiming that the Switch 2 Game Key Card situation ISN'T simply due to 3rd parties being greedy and lazy can't have been around during the N64 era, when somehow almost every developer not named Nintendo or Rare couldn't be bothered to implement on-cart saving.
@ChristiJunior @Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole @Type_Other The mem card situation, I wonder if Nintendo should've never implemented them, then we'd get our fucking saves everywhere

I wonder if Nintendo would've been just fine without key cards. Partner directs sucks ass, it's basically the key card direct, so even if there's anything "exciting" being shown... Oh, it's a fucking key card, because of course it is
@coolboymew @Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole @Type_Other Yeah, they shouldn't have let the 3rd parties ever have that option, knowing how scummy they are. Nintendo completely Owns Japan at this point, so it's not like Capcom or Squeenix can ignore the Switch 2 either way (Squeenix TRIED to make the Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy a PlayStation exclusive and it backfired badly).

Also, I get why the game stores would be cool with GKCs, but why would any actual gamer ever buy that shit? It's literally the worst of both worlds, all the inconvenience of physical MEDIA and all the storage-hog of digital copies. The Collector excuse doesn't hold water, because who'd want a Physical Copy that comes with an explicit Warning that it's not actually a physical copy?
@ChristiJunior @Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole @Type_Other Collectors don't want them. I know, I'm a collectors and I casually check collector groups and they fucking hate them

It's terrible because the Switch had a huge pie of the physical market, now like most of the library is completely avoided. I'm a tad pissy on the S2 right now as Nintendo hasn't announced anything all that hot other than FE and a few other things I'm eyeing a best (Mario Sports games has been lazy for ages, so I'm cautious about Tennis. Yoshi was given to terrible ass devs, etc etc), but basically 98% of 3rd party games practically doesn't exist for me right now
@coolboymew @Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole @Type_Other Digital isn't a dealbreaker for me depending on the file size, but GKCs? Never.

That said, I seriously doubt they expect 3 games that are B-Tier at best in terms of commercial viability to carry all of 2026, so some notable announcements shouldn't be THAT far off...
@ChristiJunior @Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole @Type_Other As for the announcements, I dunno man, I've been saying for a while that "Oh, Nintendo is keeping the good shit for the real direct" and I'm kinda losing hope a bit? This is... Not a good situation right now

Of course, my perception is entirely made worse BECAUSE of key cards, so I'm kinda back to the N64 to 3DS era of new Nintendo consoles/portables where you basically just have Nintendo games to look forward to with the occasional oddity (non-keycard 3rd party games that appeal to me)
@ChristiJunior @Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole @Type_Other I'm pretty pissed at stuff like the Bomberman Collection. Switch physical, cool. No Switch 2 physical. Fuck off

Trail remake? Cool, I missed that back in the days. No Switch 2 version, get your download upgrade. Ohh....

So currently I'm stuck waiting for hopeful Limited Games like 3rd party reprints on Switch 2 that may never actually happen
@TrueMasterCole @ChristiJunior @Rhodesian_YuKari @Type_Other urrgh. I keep a pretty keen eye on all of this, and Videogamesplus usually tell I believe, so it shouldn't normally be a problem for me

In today's direct, as far as I'm aware, the only non-KC S2 game is Indiana Jones so far
@helldiverliberator @ChristiJunior @Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole @Type_Other Unless you really, really don't want a Switch 2 or something, Switch 2 enhance a bunch of Switch 1 games, plus all the upgrades and Switch 2 editions coming out, you'd be missing out. Key cards are awful though and if you don't buy these, the Switch 2 library is extremely limited

Otherwise for S1, yes, there's plenty of exclusives by now. You can also just emulate it on Steam Deck and co though

@coolboymew @ChristiJunior @helldiverliberator @Rhodesian_YuKari @TrueMasterCole @Type_Other yeah if you just want to play switch 1 games I would say just try to find yourself a switch that can be softmodded, those earlier ones. You can just get whatever games you want then.

If you've got the money, switch 2 would be a better buy though obviously. I wouldn't say it is worth it quite yet unless you're planning on buying a bunch of used switch 1 games you've never played and they have meaningful enhancements.

Also, game key carts are better than just purely digital games because you can at least still sell them and swap them between consoles easily. It doesn't tie the game to your account but you do still have to download the data. It would be actually kind of difficult for Nintendo to offer other size cartridges at an affordable enough cost to developers so that's why that problem exists. If it used full size blu-rays like the other consoles it wouldn't be an issue but that's obviously not possible lol.

@helldiverliberator Well personally, my brothers and I enjoyed ourselves for 8 years with it.
