Oh yeah, press :pressf: for Adobe Flash

@hideki Was there ever an attempt to make an open source version of it?
@hideki I remember Gnash. When I used it, it didn't seem quite there yet. As a viewer, I mean.
@rasterman @hideki Gnash, GameSWF, Lightspark, Ruffle, and some implementation in JavaScript I can't remember the name of offhand (done by Mozilla Labs)
@allison @hideki Gnash is the only one I know of those. I'm glad there were more.

Any of those are still developed today? Do they run Flash content reliably?
@rasterman @hideki ruffle is the only one currently under active development, mainly down to the newgrounds archiving push
@tk @allison @hideki @rasterman Ruffle already works on most of the flash animations of old, and even some games :D

with time it'll be able to play more games and we'll forget that proprietary runtime that got deprecated ever was needed
@tk @allison @hideki @rasterman sure there's BlueMaxima's Flashpoint which is actually a very nice preservation project, but I don't want to download a bloated client to play a few games or animations.
