I'm not sure how true is this thing about shadow facebook accounts. I have an empty FB account with a fake name and a throwaway email address, to use it for times that the situation requires it (to see some post or smth) and FB has yet to recommend me to follow someone i may know.

facebook creates profiles for you even if you have not registered

probably if you've used the same computer to access an account it has connected you because your fingerprint is the same. certainly if you've logged in at one point in that browser

@fluffy my original post was about how that HASN'T happened to me.

I even have my profile location on a city that isn't actually where i'm from, and facebook actually shows me people to follow from that city, even ignoring the location that my browser may give away.

If that thing about shadow profiles is true, it has either not worked very well for me or fecesbook is easy to deceive.

there have been some lawsuits about it. they may be forced not to do it if you are a citizen of certain countries
it's just a guess, but, probably they still do it but simply don't *act* on the information which is the illegal part
