@hideki @hideki It's easy to go "Eww Tumbler! Keep it away." but I don't see anything but positives. Worst case scenario (and most likely) it becomes just another (albeit very large) lefty instance only federated with other lefty instances. But even then, that makes the fediverse more mainstream and increases the likelihood of this massive gain in popularity sticking. And if does happen to federate with the more haram instances, then it will increase the diversity of viewpoints the users of tumbler are exposed to, and much entertainment will ensue.

Honestly I don't really expect this to happen. Tumblr users seem to really like being in a "safe space" and because they are such a big platform (at least for fedi standards), they will probably be very careful to go through blocklists and copy other big instances restrictions. So I think only smaller instances may fly under the radar in the begging but even they will probably see themselves blocked in very little time.
That being said, I agree with Reluctant Weeb that in the end this is a positive anyway for the increased visibility fedi will receive
