@locarnta Yeah the SA was very gay. One of the reasons people like Himmler hated it. The nazis were at the end of the day anti-homo, and there were more pro-homo views early on. The pro-homo views being strongest in the SA (many being homosexuals themself). May also be worth noting that homosexuality was commonplace in the wandervogel (pre-nazi German nationalist youth groups).

The anti-homo view were motivated by people like Himmler and Rosenberg. The latter Röhm called a "clownish moral athlete" writing to the gay völkisch writer Karl-Günter Heimsoth about laws against homosexuality.

And the magazine talked about in there Der Eigene was a gay anarchist magazine, which is why it was later destroyed by the nazis. But it did publish articles by nazis like Heimsoth's Freundesliebe oder Homosexualität. And held similar view on homosexuality and even on the jews.

And if you want more gay figures in German nationalism you have frederick the great himself.
@locarnta @rats I believed I talked with you about a lot of this before but I feel like tagging you
@SuzyCreamcheese @locarnta it's still fascinating that this / propaganda saying fascists were degenerates / people thinking 'salo' was real lead to communists/anti-fascists being anti-gay for a lot of the 20th century
@rats @SuzyCreamcheese @locarnta people who think that "Salo" is somehow representative of the fascists elites have negative IQ. Salo is purely a depiction of fetishism, inspired by the literature of De Sade, who was part of the enlightenment elites, who were certainly not fascists.
@rats @SuzyCreamcheese @locarnta even Pasolini himself imo knew that fascism was not the central theme of the movie, but an excuse to set up the plot
