Story in video games is just a dumb overrated meme. If I want a good story I can just a book. If I want cool visuals I can watch a movie.
Gameplay is the primary reason for playing a game and the pretentious journos can go fuck themselves.

@matrix good story can b good in video games. havent u ever played any jrpgs?
@shit @matrix I did and most had shitty stereotypical "defeat da bad guy" plots
@igeljaeger @matrix not all like that. star ocean has a good story about like everyone turns to stone and u go back in time to find the cure and therse like a war against demons and theres aliens and u dont even kno who the bad guy is untill near the end
@shit @matrix sounds more like a random plot than a well written story but aight. Havent played it so wont argue about it.
@igeljaeger @matrix its good ok. cus it has ties to earth and lemuria and ancient aliens.
@igeljaeger @matrix scientology is a good story tho. just stupid religion
@matrix Graphics and story are like a dessert to the main meal. They can improve the experience but you went there for the main meal not only the dessert
A good story and graphics won't carry shit gameplay for long unless they are really good but there is plenty of good games that have basically zero story and don't look amazing

> If I want a good story I can just a book. If I want cool visuals I can watch a movie.
Books are not the only source for stories and movies not the only source for visuals, I agree with what you mean but that argument is shit and needs to die
@matrix
This a silly post :(

Could it be that you don't recognize games as form of expression?

If that's the case then I'm mildly angry, gameplay isn't the primary reason to play nor is the graphics or the story, it's the whole of it blended together.

Games offer a very unique form of expression that unlike other platforms it can also engage a subject beyond its narrative in the form of gameplay

However saying that gameplay is the only thing it can offer is quite a straw man.
Many overwhelmingly praised or treasured tittles like let's say "Metal Gear" become dated or off-putting due the constraints of the platform, games as a form of expression need of hardware and software that needles to say it's constantly changing and evolving, books don't suffer from this due to aforementioned reasons, movies however do but I think it's easier to ignore due to how non interactive nature of the medium.

From the very first to the last "Metal Gear" game the stories are great and engaging but is the medium (hardware, software) what prevents us from enjoying both titles to an equal degree

You're a silly lad Matrix >:(
@matrix A good story is interwoven into gameplay, and that makes it even better than a regular story in a book.

Plus people just gravitate to shit that looks cool.
