For males, sexual adulthood is a right of passage, an entrance into manhood. It's something that has nothing to do with the woman one has sex with. The change takes place in the being of the man. The secret is told, although it is not the secret of sensory elation â sight, sound, smell, taste, or touch. It is a secret of melancholy. The knowing of the unknowableness of another soul, even after the deepest loving, and the knowing of the self in a new light, not altogether luminous, as one sets out on a new journey in the path of life. It is a secret rarely spoken of, particularly in our materialized times, but one all men must learn eventually.
