Technically it's not "alt" when it's mainstream

Well. That's certainly true, but the alt-right isn't a coherent entity either.
I'm only using the alt-left as a term because "SJWs" is overused and "leftist' or "the left" are extremely broad.

It's a small group of people with overlapping ideologies. Just like the "alt-left".
The main difference is that no one on the extreme left identifies as "alt-left", but many people on the extreme right do call themselves "alt-right".
