Women are valued at younger ages because of their fertility, men at later ages because of their resources.
Women are always more important while able to build children, but less when unable. Men are only valuable insofar as procuring resources for children and defending said children and children.
That being said this is from a biological only perspective, not a personal one. At the personal level you best love your grandmama or you're a terrible person!

@matrix This is what we refer to as the 'female rationalization hamster'. For a once-attractive woman to lose her looks is unbelievably painful, she literally becomes an exile from a fairyland world men can't conceive of.
