@animeirl
Need isn't the moral arbiter.
The landlord has limited space and needs to live somewhere too.
@matrix what are you even talking about? lmao. Landlords aren't weird multidimensional cosmic beings that spread their bodies out through 20 unit apartment buildings. Stop being a disingenuous hack.
@animeirl What is the landlord supposed to do when they have 20 apartments, but 25 people need an apartment? (assuming each apartment is big enough for 1 person)
@matrix this isn't what people are talking about. Not having enough units isn't a problem. What is exploitive is jacking up rent prices to the point people can't afford and leaving units empty for months or years (and counting it as "lost revenue" for tax purposes). Kicking out tenants to convert units to condos or to multiple smaller units for more money or to illegally use for airbnb (which is more lucrative)
@animeirl The jacking up of prices is the natural reaction of the market to high demand/low supply, which is what I was talking about. Converting units to condos or to multiple smaller units is an attempt at responding to high demand/low supply.
The high demand/low supply is thanks to government over regulation and/or immigration (depends on the place).
Counting empty condos as "lost revenue" is again the fault of the government.
@matrix because people need housing. It's not a luxury good like an Xbox lol
