@rasterman @matrix She was Lucas' personal choice to run Lucasfilm. She's a very successful producer. The problem with Star Wars is Lucas ran out of ideas and energy almost before he finished the original trilogy, so he wrapped it up in six. 7, 8 and 9 were cancelled. 9 was going to have the death of the Emperor. Well, that's done, so they have to recreate the Empire and retell the same damn story to generate some conflict, additional episodes and a few billion in revenue.
@matrix They had to kill the post-Return of the Jedi EU because it was premised on immediate followup which necessitates a 35-40 year old Mark Hammil, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. In 2012 the youth CG tricks were not up to the task.
