Japanese voice actors pretending to be American is always funny

@matrix , that cool .

me and my instance are , new , to the fediverse so we don't exactly have a topic.
it was mainly to replace Facebook for me and my small group of friends but they seem to not want to come on over , and eh that their choice i guess
but im keeping this instance open anyway.

@logan Awesome, it's always nice to see new people joing fedi

@matrix its a pretty interesting challenge (not to hard just interesting) to get a server running on residential internet.
most stuff like documentation and tutorials , etc.. are designed with VPS as their primary target it seems. but that seems very counter-productive to me because what the point of having a server if its on somebody else's hardware

@logan Good point. You can buy a dedicated server but that's extremely expensive.

@matrix i actually got this one being thrown out , it isn't the most powerful thing in the world. but it gets the job done.
i use it for dual purpose though , its my desktop and a server.
i had to get a graphics card and another cpu though cause i didn't want to view everything at half a frame a second.

next thing on the list to replace/add is new harddrives . one of them already failed on me. luckily there is 4 of them in this rig.

@logan If you are essentially building a new PC, isn't it better to just build a second box that just sits in your closet or somewhere?

@matrix im not really building a new pc , im just replacing the warn out parts.
i actually do have a laptop as well but that is for experimentation with different software.
particularly right now im trying to do LFS.

also im no expert but i would think it would be easier to maintain a system of your using it almost daily anyway , if something strange happens with the server side i just pull up a terminal and probe away till i find the issue.
if it was in a closet it might take me a while to even notice that something strange is happening.
@matrix the server software all has its own user of course though . wouldn't want the net having sudo access XD .
it has sufficiant permission to access the files it need to run and that it.
except occasionally if php gets rebooted , there is this 1 file that keeps getting renamed and it change the permissions on it so then i have to recreate the symbolic link and change the permissions back (which i do with a basic bash script)
