I'm a consultant. Consulting would be great if we didn't have to estimate how long a task will take and then put the proverbials on the line if our estimate is too low, or lose the work to a cheaper competitor if the estimate is too high.
But since we do have to do that, consulting really bites.

But before you started, what was your estimate of how long it would take, when you were bidding for the project or justifying the investment to your boss?
