I find a lot to agree and disagree with in here. His conclusion seems to be that IQ is useful for is selecting for the mentally disabled, not the truly "intelligent." As far as criticism, I am not remotely as smart as Taleb, but I know that psychometrics have addressed some of his complaints.

I don't get this paragraph. Do these people really exist?

@matrix @Moon Most well-read HBD types believe that IQ is important but not the only factor at play for determining success, and other personality traits can be extremely important. Higher individualism in the West encouraged greater competitive use of said intelligence for innovation, as opposed to the stagnation in the East where said intelligence was relegated to rote memorization of the classics.

The individualism in Europe is a relatively recent thing, too. IIRC, it wasn't until *after* the discovery of the New World that Europeans began to consider that they were producing new knowledge instead of merely rediscovering the lost ancient wisdom. It can also be viewed as a tale of how small changes in initial condition can compound into global dominance over societies with more rescources.
