I just upgraded the laptop from my gf from ubuntu 19.10 to Linux Mint 20 using the repositories and apt-get without any big issue.

I did not expect this to work as smoothly as it did. The only important thing is to install 'mint-meta-cinnamon' or 'mint-meta-mate' as the first action after replacing the apt sources.

So yea ... if you don't like snap and want to have an actually smoothly running ubuntu-derivate, go for it.

@simon Type sudo rm /etc/apt/preferences.d/nosnap.pref into the terminal :gnomed:

@matrix There are actually already some snap packages installed. Zoom, Skype and Chromium I think.
@matrix
oh, no. I expected it would, but it actually kept all the snap stuff. I was surprised.

The snap runtime is probably stuck in 19.10 and will never upgrade

I need to investigate this further ^^

@simon Maybe. Check if /etc/apt/preferences.d/nosnap.pref is there.

Follow

@simon It makes apt ignore the snapd package, so it won't get updated. You can remove it to get apt to see it again.
