I find it funny how the word queer has turned from an insult to a normal term
@galena @matrix @shonalika I’m pretty insulted if some jackass calls me queer. They are gonna get told off nice and sharply.
Nothing “empowering” about a slur, and nothing “empowering” about pretending its not an insult.
@galena @matrix @shonalika I’ll go a little further in my I dislike the term queer.
Setting aside the obvious slur aspect, as that’s pretty obvious.
But I feel like queer is one of those umbrella terms that attention seeking straight people use to sneak in, and get in on the whole social justice game. They aren’t LGB and they aren’t trans, but they want to pretend like they’ve got some beef with society because its the hip new thing. So they take on the label of “some kind of” queer and its so vague who can say they aren’t.
Ultimately, it gets used not to say things like, “LGBT people should be treated better,” but the usual far left extremist politics — which is exactly what I’d expect from someone who isn’t really LGBT at all. I’m not trans because I want to make some political statement about gender politics, I was just born this way and have to deal with it. To these people it is a political statement and that’s really all there is to it.
