"Oshi" comes from "oshimen" which is a term that originates from Japanese idol culture. It's used to refer to one's favourite member within an idol group.
Hololive is a "virtual idol group", hence the adoption of idol wota terms among western fans. /vt/ then extended those terms to other vtubers as well.
