But as for RWJ himself, he'd have weekly videos where he'd take 3 viral videos, and comment on them. That's it. He basically was one of the first people doing Tosh.0/Ridiculousness/all those other generic video commentary shows.
He took off because he did a lot of the things that are essentially required nowadays to tickle the algorithm, but, you know... Was fucking genuine about it instead of cynically tickling the algorithm because that's The Meta.
