It's the Boeing 787 that has these, by the way. I think part of it was weight and size savings, and part of it was just providing a better passenger experience.

The 787 also has some improvements over conventional aircraft. For example, usually your pressurization system in most passenger aircraft sets you at 8000 feet (~2500 meters) equivalent altitude. But the 787 runs at 6,000 feet, and it also humidifies the air. The result is less fatigue and less jet lag for passengers.
@dave @matrix That would sound neat if I wasn't reminded that it's rather unlikely I'll ever set foot into an airplane - outside of museums - again.
