I can't replace the mini-pcie wifi adapter in my laptop because the bios apparently whitelists device ids. I want to upgrade to wifi-6 but that apparently means new laptop.
@matrix I have a thinkpad w530 yeah. unfortunately I don't think it's one that can get the coreboot firmware replacement.
@Moon You might be able to find a hacked bios.
I wanted to upgrade the wifi card when I had a Lenovo laptop, but never did, because I got scarred flashing the modified bios.
@matrix yeah I just found instructions on how to coreboot-flash my system, I don't think I could do it without messing it up somehow, you have to solder onto the eeprom to flash
@Moon Oh, that's much complicated. I think I just had to boot into FreeDOS and flash it.
@matrix hacked firmwares are easy, they work the same as official ones. coreboot replaces everything, even chunks of intel management engine.
