The evidence they have for that seems to me extremely convincing (except that I believe that a more conspiratorial thesis, which is "industrial food is intentionally designed to be as addictive as possible and to supress hunger", is also plausible, maybe even more so).
Diet and exercise do not work as they should in a scenario where peoples sense of hunger is being mislead by chemicals. The human body has the ability to regulate its own weight and before ~60s that worked extremely well, so well that there used to be *weight gain* products for women.
I think there is an extremely high probability that the current international obesity crisis is either caused accidentally or intentionally and that while "exercise and dieting" do "work" on a theoretical level they are *entirely* inadequat as a cure.
