@matrix lmao it's gotta be so bad, with the hlf decade of riots

@matrix one race was so bad that it broke the crime statistics
@Hyperhidrosis @matrix just change the definition of crime to "when commited by white people"

@matrix
I'm surprised they aren't just outright altering them by now. Stupid move showing weakness by refusing to release them, purely showing that they're hiding something

@matrix Based on the first link I found, it’s Time but they’re less of a rag than they used to be, the FBI simply stopped using their old 1929 Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) in 2021 and:

“[…] switched to a different system, called the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), which provides more details on crimes that are reported. Though the change is meant to improve tracking, this week’s announcement from the FBI highlights what experts say are serious concerns about its impact on crime statistics for years to come.

“The problem is that a large portion of police departments do not have the NIBRS system, which is expensive and can be difficult to implement into a department. According to the Bureau of Statistics, it could cost up to $377,000 for a department to switch over to NIBRS and over $53,000 for annual maintenance. According to the FBI, 63% of all police agencies in the country are using the NIBRS system; however, many of the big cities, like New York and Los Angeles, don’t use NIBRS, which means their crime trends will be completely left out of the FBI’s data analysis for 2021, including the annual reports.”

So we just aren’t going to get useful national level statistics any more, full stop, Forget about racial breakdowns, we’re not even going to get the most basic thinks like the number of murders in California and New York, #1 and #4 in the fortified 2020 Census, almost 60 million out of 330 million in the country.

A note on timing: if you know anything about US government computer system procurement, let alone how very bad the FBI is at it, this has been in the works for a long time. Per Wikipedia, credibly since 1988 (really). Also obviously a lot more work for police departments, shades of the ICD-10 with gems like W56.41XD, “Bitten by shark, subsequent encounter,” the subsequent encounter is with the medical system, not a shark.

Of course, the decision of when to cut over to the new system, or not for who knows how many departments, but it’s more than 40% for 1Q22, might not be coincidental.
