i have to admit i don't really understand mastodon's appeal, any other fediverse software just seems... better, in every way

@helene
The other UI's waste space imo and MastoFE has been deprecated. I also hate how Pleroma FE does (doesn't do) threads.
My fork fixes the annoying things about Mastodon so there isn't really a reason to switch.

@matrix yeah if you forked it that makes sense
fedibird's version of mastofe looks good to me, and they have emoji reacts etc so...
but yeah, very fair concerns, though in your case you were definitely not the target of that post :blobcatwinktongue:

@helene
Yeah, Fedibird is great. I have considered several times merging some of there changes, but never felt confident with not breaking anything.

@matrix @helene >I also hate how Pleroma FE does (doesn't do) threads.

any suggestions? we now have tree-like thread views. also less space wasted with three-column mode
@matrix @helene it's (tree-like threads) an option, I want to make it more visible tho. 3-column mode is on by default (if you have space for it)

@hj
Nice. That's what I wanted. I agree it should be a bit more pronounced. I can't see it my phone though.
I guess I only have a one complaint left, lot of websites do this, the buttons on top left and right are uncomfortable to press on mobile. It would be nice if you could either access them with gestures.
@helene

@matrix @helene there are SOME gesture support, but it's extremely underdeveloped. We'd need someone who's good at it in web space. Personally I don't like gestures, they're always jank to me, even supposedly good apple's gestures.

@hj
I do hate gestures too, but I think moving the buttons down would break the overall design, so gestures seem like a sensible compromise.
@helene

@pomstan @matrix @helene any backend from 2020-2022 should work fine. Maybe even 2019
