If only Apple used Vulkan instead of a proprietary API

@matrix @LinusTech fun fact - apple's proprietary API predates Vulkan by a few months.
@hj @LinusTech @matrix And Mantle predated Metal, which I believe started the discussion inside the Khronos group to establish a new low-level API, but Apple still wanted to be an individual with their own proprietary API.

@coolboymew @LinusTech @matrix there's vulkan-to-metal compatibility layer tho. OpenGL was always shit on macs tho, probably OpenGL -> Vulkan -> Metal works better than any of apple's OpenGL drivers ever did
@hj @LinusTech @matrix @coolboymew We used to laugh at shit compat with OpenGL on macs. Gtruc had charts showing claimed compat vs actual compat for various OS/drivers. Certain ogl API calls on Mac would just crash the app level of bad.

That's one reason Vulkan requires test cert to claim driver compat per version. Prove it works. :3

@coolboymew @LinusTech @matrix @hj its gets better, they dont even support openCL nowadays, despite the fact, that they were the one to introduce it
@coolboymew @LinusTech @matrix @hj also, mac os does in fact still have OpenGL and OpenAL, but both of them spam "deprecation" warnings on compilation despite mostly working fine, except being the worst OpenGL implementation around
Honestly a good decision, nobody needs to support their garbage.
