Most of the mods are proprietary software, whether willing or not, as such are derivative works of minecraft (in case you try to argue against such, you'll need to answer what functionality the mods have if you were to remove minecraft).
Maybe it's best they remain there.
Minetest has *built in* modding support and there's plenty of fine mods for Minetest, so it gets that part better.
