Meanwhile the MineClone devs (for Minetest) do it for free, and usually in half the time.
@arcanicanis @matrix i like minetest but not for survival because their 65k³ map limit is a dealbreaker and they literally shove it in a sqlite database without even needing to
@opal @matrix @arcanicanis
Why is that a dealbreaker? I rarely explore anywhere outside of 20k blocks in Minecraft.
@ThighHighSock @arcanicanis @matrix especially with nether travel and speed/entity hacks it's easy as hell to go a hundred thousand or a million out
@ThighHighSock @arcanicanis @matrix i'll eventually use cuberite to host a minecraft server because i want to hack on that and make it better, idk how complete it is yet but its much more promising than minetest's desire for backwards compatibility, and there have already been attempts to make open-source clients that speak the minecraft proto as well. i dont see minetest having an indefinite future
@opal @matrix @arcanicanis
Damn, they do an excellent job at dismissing the concerns of their community.
@ThighHighSock @matrix @arcanicanis they think theyre high and mighty by denying they compete with minecraft's features, and making excuses for shitty architectural choices
@matrix yet they cant rework the inventory system to be more usable
