@Hoss @matrix Well of course it’s enemy propaganda, everything published that isn’t banned is, but I think it’s worth getting into especially when stories like these are happening because sites like sankaku complex whose hearts are in the right place are misunderstanding what’s happening and why. The market didn’t make this happen and it certainly won’t fix it. This is happening because the American liberal system is totalitarian, as totalitarian as any regime in history. It can’t abide the notion that ANYONE may ever encounter a single illiberal thought, even something as seemingly benign as “women tend to like men and will often compete against each other for male affection” must be redacted because it implies that there are discernible differences between different kinds of people and that’s forbidden, even if it’s in a rated T for Teen Nintendo game. The localizer is serving the same essential job as the editors at the same three major publishers who publish virtually all books in America who decide what does and doesn’t get published, which is the same job as the television show writer who is sure to only include liberal values and messaging and never anything illiberal. It’s to control the thoughts of the public. The notion that these people are bad at their jobs because many of them don’t know Japanese is simply incorrect, they aren’t translators, a translator would be bad at his job if he didn’t know Japanese, but a localizers job is to make sure that people in America only ever see things that are sufficiently anti-racist, feminist, and lgbt positive, and if possible influence the Japanese developers to make sure the original Japanese game be made more closely aligned with liberal American values from the beginning. Unfortunately they are quite good at their jobs.
