So I can tell you a few things about Japan in 1993:

1. there weren't foreigners all over the place, I would go weeks without seeing another white person (outside tokyo) and you were instantly very popular
2. Akihabara was an absolutely incredible tech haven back then, it is a ghost of itself now.
3. no signage in english
I feel blessed to have experienced Japan during what could still be considered the absolute peak of "cool japan"
I visited again in 2022 after 29 years away and did all the things I wanted to do but didn't get to do the first time, except visit a no-pan kissa, which don't exist anymore
