2 days ago Transport Tycoon Deluxe (the original) got added to the GOG store.

Using a very misleading move GOG has now updated their OpenTTD page to list the original game as a requirement for playing OpenTTD.

This is not true at all. OpenTTD is a standalone game and does not require any files from the original game to work, it even replaces the original graphics.

Do not buy Transport Tycoon Deluxe from GOG. They charge 10 euro for it and it is simply the original game wrapped inside of DOSBox without any changes. Not worth your money.

Instead you should just simply download OpenTTD from the official download on openttd.org and play that instead.

And instead of giving your money to Atari/GOG you can donate money to the OpenTTD project directly.

OpenTTD definitely deserves your money more than Atari does.

The people at OpenTTD have been maintaining this game for over 20 years.

Atari however has simply taken the old game and lazily packaged it inside of a DOSBox wrapper to make a quick buck.

@SuperDicq they did more than just lazily packaged it inside of a DOSBox wrapper, but i still agree, fuck em

@SuperDicq They licensed DREAMM and probably modified it to run the game. It's not much and definitely not worth $10, but it's a functional and faithful version of the original.

@matrix@gameliberty.club Whatever they did it will never be as good as the 20+ years of development that OpenTTD has had.

@matrix@gameliberty.club They could have also just forked OpenTTD to make their "remastered" version of TTD, which would've made a much better game.

But they would rather distribute their crappy modified engine or emulator or whatever then have to abide by the GPL. Absolutely braindead move.

@matrix@gameliberty.club Because guess what Atari can just sell their game for 10 euro on Steam and GOG, distribute the source code as well. But they just refuse to do so.
