I'm the same, but for whatever reason, some people have trouble immersing themselves in a game when they aren't in that game. I don't know why, maybe lack of empathy or it's just a red herring to push their politics.

Here's another reason why I think that for many of these people, being trans is a performance. Why does changing your gender in a video game matter to you? If you have gender dysphoria and want to play as yourself in a video game, wouldn't you just create your character as the gender you see yourself as? Why would you care if you can change it later?
