The GNUsocial Axis Resolutions


Pillars of the GNUsocial Federation

We, the members of the GNUsocial Axis, hereby do declare these the pillars of the GNUsocial Federation.
1. Liberty â Users should be capable of expressing their opinions and sentiments, without the fear of systematic censorship or reprisal. This freedom is unconditional and sacred.
2. Decentralization â The federation is decentralized and not subject to the control of any one user; this is not just a condition of our space on the internet, but an ideal in and of itself.
3. Openness â The decision making process of GNUsocial, including but not limited to the extension or modification of its protocols, behaviors, and features, should be subject to open debate and discussion.
4. Honesty â All actors within the federation should be honest not only with fellow members of the federation, but also outside entities in the discussion of GNUsocialâs design, history, and functionality. No administrator should attempt to exploit their users trust, omit relevant information, or bend the truth to their own ends.


Denunciation of Mastodon Social

We, the members of the GNUsocial Axis, do hereby resolve to oppose the attempts at hegemony, misinformation, and monopoly perpetrated by the administration and developers of Mastodon. We stand together in solidarity and unity against the efforts of Mastodon to pervert the original vision of the StatusNet and later GNUsocial community; we conclude that the form of censorship, greed, and ill intent demonstrated by @Gargron and his collaborators against the rest of the federation is unacceptable.
It should not be often that a community such as GNUsocial comes to this point. The nature of GNUsocial should not be conspiratorial or competitive, but cooperative. We should seek to ensure the freedom of our users to express their opinions and sentiments, free from fear of censorship or reprisal. The values of personal freedom are the very spirit of the GNU project, if not the internet as a whole. Mastodon, however, has mounted an offensive against these very ideals. It is therefore necessary and justifiable that the communities comprising the access unite against this interloper, in the defense of the previously outlined Pillars of the Federation that they may not perish from the network.


Commitment to the Development of the Axis

We hereby resolve to do all in our power to develop, improve, and expand the GNUsocial Axis and to promote the Pillars of the Federation in both words and deeds. We resolve to operate our instances in respect to this article, and to cooperate in our efforts to create a more perfect GNUsocial.
To these ends, all signatories of this resolution resolve to:
⢠Provide assistance to fellow Axis administrators and communities unconditionally
⢠Develop and maintain alternatives to the Mastodon software, such as postActiv, Qvitter, and Pleromaâs backend and frontend.
⢠Support and encourage the development and adoption of these alternatives by new entrants to the federation
⢠Maintain full federation with as many GNUsocial instances as possible
⢠Consistently improve and expand Axis instances to better serve and grow Axis presence on the network
