If you claim that someone is a fascist (let's be honest, there are very few self-proclaimed fascists) and they don't support a dictatorial single-party state with a dirigiste approach to the economy and society ...

... you're wrong, they're not fascists. They might be despicable, but they don't meet the core definition.

By definition, anyone in favour of universal franchise and responsible government, civil liberties or economic freedom isn't a fascist.

If you think that you're a socialist, but you don't want state control of major assets, industries or funds ...

... you're not really a socialist.

Socialism is quite literally about socialising the economy; taking control out of the hands of private ownership or capital. Some forms involve nominal private ownership, with divorce of actual control, but that's a fig leaf.

If you don't want that, you're not a socialist.
