So I’ve looked into another Tusky fork — Yuito. I didn’t deeply looked in it’s code, kept that as surprise for myself. So there is review from user point of view and how it differs from Tusky and Husky.
Releases are frequent and based on Tusky dev branch, usually by merging branches. Unlike my own way of syncing with upstream — reviewing and cherry-picking commits(and just copypasting translations), merging keeps more upstream Tusky experience. But not so fast, it has it’s own unique features and, oh boy, they are cool.
App have full English translation so I didn’t had any issues using it.
So what’s interesting I found:
Working streaming. Wow! I am not sure do we really need that in mobile client, especially that it works only in tabs and don’t affect notifications. But hey, you can endlessly watch on three things: how the fire burns, how water flows and how Federated Timeline is flooded with new posts.
Quoting for those instances that have it. Although it’s not hacked on backend, it’s purely done in frontend so there is hardcoded list of instances that have it. Rejoice, qoto.org people, I found your instance in that list!
Quick Reply. It’s a small view on a bottom of the screen that allows to quickly compose a reply or new post. Not so advanced like full ComposeActivity(compared to Husky ;)), but I still found that feature useful in some cases.
Logging-in by access token… but why?
And no, this review doesn’t mean I will necessarily took it’s features into Husky. Why should I? It’s quite a nice friendly Tusky fork. And it’s developer seems to contribute to upstream as well. I would recommend that if you’re on Mastodon, especially if you use quoting.
Maybe there will be part two of my small review when I will look into it’s source code. I still didn’t figured out what Network Limit mode does, except limit API calls in ComposeActivity and reducing timeline updates. And what instance version text view does in drawer, it just adds ‘?’ on every tap.
Tagging it’s developer because why not: @ars42525
I'm the joke, but you're the punchline.
I run this website. I like posting funnies and fugging lolis.
