For some time, there has been a troubling problem I've noticed across large swathes of internet discourse. The idea that you can doubt someone, simply from how inflammatory they may be, that it somehow impacts their genuineness and their desire to see good in the world. We, as internet people, come here to fedi in order to escape the parochialism and stifling feeling of the other major networks.

Why, then, do we bring that feeling here in the name of dismissiveness and snap conclusions? My father (bless his heart) has always impressed the importance of something on me, something I remember well. That something being: "if you want to change or relate to people, meet them where they are, not where they ought to be". It's a lesson I learned well from my own slide into and journey out of depravity. When we throw aside our morals for the pretended idea of judgement, we show ourselves no better than cattle.

So, as counsel, what I'll say. Please be genuine, please reach out and accept the genuineness in others. Even if there are deep disagreements in matters of tact, good is the only thing that matters in the end.
