I guess it depends on use case. My librebooted T400 has 8GB RAM and a Q9300 CPU and is fine for basic tasks like word processing; emails and web browsing. I wouldn't want to be stuck on 8GB RAM for gaming though.
@publiclewdness Yeah, I can live out of as little as two. But I remember when 8 gigs was hard to fill, and 16 was totally indomitable
