I ultimately ended up with MX Linux.. Its AHS version.. Its basically Debian Stable with latest kernel and latest GPU drivers with SysV Init and no Systemd and several other modifications and bug fixes in base Debian Stable.

I liked MX Linux as a distro but for whatever reason always found installing Mate to be problematic for me. If they offered a Mate edition with it preinstalled i'd be all over it.
