Over the past few years, many people have unfortunately become more dependent on streaming media. But it's important to remember how streaming services can deprive you of important rights. Dis-services like Disney+ and Netflix mandate the use of a hardware-level backdoor called Widevine, giving them permanent access into deep components of your machine. Try video sites like the Blender Open Movies project instead.

The Linux Libre kernel has been updated to version 6.12. A whole bunch more blobs had to be removed to keep it fully libre. This continues to be one of the best kernels to use if privacy and security are your top concerns as it keeps closed source blobs to a miniumum that do God knows what. Updated my NovaCustom NV41 earlier today with no issues.

The main website for the project is located here:

https://www.fsfla.org/ikiwiki/selibre/linux-libre/

A good writeup of the release can be found here at 9-5 Linux:

https://9to5linux.com/gnu-linux-libre-6-12-kernel-released-for-those-seeking-100-freedom-for-their-pcs

The release notes for this update are available here:

https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/info-gnu/2024-11/msg00001.html

It seems that the Linux kernel may have some dark times ahead. Part of the release notes for 6.12 libre kernel is the following:

"Other upstream author-itarians are pushing for the kernel to tell on
you, the user, if you choose to avoid running untrusted code on your own
device, labeling your system as security-tainted. Information about
potential security issues is good, but pushing for the installation of
untrustworthy binary blobs isn't. If we're not careful, this
information will end up used by local and remote programs to refuse to
cooperate with us who insist in controlling our computing."
