Direct messages on Mastodon are really simple: just set your privacy to "Direct" (change the 🌎 to a ✉️ ) and then @ the accounts you want to message.

Alternatively, go to the profile page of the account you want to message, click on "..." and select "Direct message".

You can also reply to public posts with a direct message by altering the privacy setting of your reply before posting it. If you use a DM as a reply it will only be visible to the people you @ in the reply.

As of 0.15.0 #phosh supports arbitrary passwords. Those who want to stick to 0⃣1⃣2⃣3⃣4⃣5⃣6⃣7⃣8⃣9⃣ can shuffle the layout to make 🕵️‍♀️ a bit harder (once the merge request landed). Can be turned ▶️/⏹️ via a gsetting.
