Starting from a few days ago, Software Heritage records nar SHA256 hashes of directories, meaning that #Guix can now query content by hash without further ado:

That’s a great step forward, fixing an impedance mismatch between Guix and SWH.

👍 to the amazing folks at @swheritage!!

I sold a system on Ebay with Trisquel recently and Ebay finally got me the payout. Nice system for basic use with an i7-4770; 16GB RAM; 1TB SSD; 2TB HDD and with Trisquel 11.01 on it. I donated 10% of my net profts to Trisquel. Already got the next Trisquel system almost built.
This week's donation went to FOSS online FPS "Red Eclipse". The code is licensed using zlib and the game is made using the Sauerbraten engine. The game is available through certain distro repos; Flathub; Github; and Game Jolt.

The game's main website is here:

Code editor "Zed" has now been open sourced by it's creators. The Zed editor will be GPL licensed while server-side components are AGPL licensed. The GPUI UI framework that powers Zed will be under an Apache 2.0 license. Currently it's only available as a .dmg and as source code so if you're on Linux or BSD you'll have to build from source. Hopefully this changes soon.

The project's main website is here:

The source code is available on Github:

FOSS firmware/BIOS updater "Fwupd" has been updated to version 1.9.12. This update adds remote modification support to fwupdtool; adds support for more modify-config options; fixes fourteen bugs; adds support for a few new devices; and more. Fwupd is a piece of software that works with the Linux Vendor Firmware Service to give an easy way to update firmware and BIOS for various devices. The firmware and BIOS that the vendors offer isn't always FOSS but Fwupd itself is. The code is licensed using LGPLv2.1. Fwupd can be downloaded through various Linux distros as well as through Flathub as a flatpak.

The main website for the project is:

https://fwupd.org/

The source code is hosted on Github:

The release notes for this update can be found here:

While working the past few days I came up with game concept. It's a sort of survival/mining/crafting game. The player and his waifu cash on an alien world with a non-oxygen atmosphere. The goal is to gradually build up the tech required to build a transdimensional gate to link this world to Dwarven space.

Some of gameplay involves finding obelisks which unlock blueprints, mining into mountains to collect ore, building domes to house machines, fending off wildlife, exploring, clearing paths to drive your truck(s) to and from mines, visiting your waifu to lower your horny meter to prevent going wildman, expanding your base, upgrading equipment.

One idea I had was a VTOL that has no real storage space but can get you far fast so you can mine remote locations or just to locate obelisks. Another idea is using trucks you build to haul lots of shit at once like say from a large copper vein in a mountain back to base or supplies to a place you want to install a bridge.

A game about largely doing whatever the fuck you want so long as you can survive and not go mad.
No knock raids need to stop. Regardless this is beyond stupid. The police could of killed that baby.

Virtual build machines to the rescue of software archaeologists:

Not just archaeologists actually: it’s something you need to rebuild packages that include “time traps” (fail to build after some time). It’s relatively rare, but when you need them, you’d rather have a simple way to work around the problem.

FDA Hasn’t Reviewed Some Food Additives in Decades

"There’s a long list of chemicals and additives that are allowed in the U.S. but are banned in Europe and other places over health concerns. There are more than 10,000 chemicals and additives allowed in food in the U.S., often in small amounts. But many have not been evaluated by the FDA in decades. The majority are safe, but some chemicals allowed here have been banned overseas after research has linked them to cancer and developmental or behavioral issues.”
