The computational power and time wasted compiling community Swift packages is astronomical. But thankfully not for too long...

I just replaced a keyboard in a ThinkPad T450 laptop. Some of the keys were not working. When I took the keyboard out to re-seat the connection and test it, I noticed there was some sticky residue likely from a liquid spill.

Replacing the keyboard with another used keyboard fixed the problem of some of the keys not working, so I isolated the problem to the keyboard part and not the ribbon cable connection or other cause.

...goes against the science

Hate the CDC in 2020 when they're shutting down people's businesses but not walmart = Anti-science bigot, basically a terrorist.
Hate the CDC when in 2024 they've changed the science yet another time = Progressive champion, savior of the vaccinated.
It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

The Chaos of Heat by Sefton Eisenhart.

The Chaos of Heat is a crime story as unrelenting as the heat wave described in its vivid prose. It follows a man who, wracked by heroin addiction, finds himself at the front of a dangerous robbery spree. Will Vince survive long enough to get his next fix, or is he little more than shark bait, out of his depth?

I just opened up registration for the March iteration of the "Hands-On Guile Scheme for Beginners" course!

This is an 8-week course that is a mixture of on-demand learning content, live Q&A sessions, practical exercises, and a private forum where I answer all your questions. We had a great time in the February iteration so I'm looking forward to running it again!

Come learn Scheme and functional programming with us!

Semi FOSS BIOS "Coreboot" has been updated to version 24.02. This update adds support for three new motherboards, updates Grub to version 2,12, ACPI updates, and more. The code to Coreboot is licensed using GPLv2.0. The reason I call it semi FOSS is that it does have to include varying levels of closed source blobs to make many models work. Having some FOSS in Coreboot beats having a fully closed source BIOS though and it is a good step for users to take to get more privacy and security for their devices.

The project's main website is here:

https://www.coreboot.org/

The code is hosted on Github:

The release notes for this update are here:

The project has a presense on Mastodon:

There is a more thorough writeup on this release by Phoronix:

Intel has open sourced it's NPU Acceleration Library. It's a user space library for Windows and Linux systems for interfacing with the Neural Processing Unit found on their new Meteor Lake laptops. The source code is available on Github and it is licensed using the Apache 2.0 license.

When you think of fine wine you probably think of #France or Italy but who was the first country to make it? In Georgia, they’ve been making wine the same way for 8000 years.
