It's sad that the "#Rust on #Linux" discussion on the invitation only #kernel maintainers summit I'm honored to participate in today is held in private, as having it in the open would send a strong signal:

The #LinuxKernel core maintainers really want Rust for Linux to succeed.

[Edit, to clarify: and many of them are willing to spend time and effort to make this happen.]

First person shooter "Hands of Necromancy II" was released recently. It has a native Linux version and is available DRM free at GOG. It was made using the FOSS GZDoom engine.

Just joined fosstodon and wanted to share an #introduction. I'm a programmer and enjoy programming in #C/C++. I also like #gardening, singing (especially #publicdomain music), #writing (including #fanfic ) and #baking. I'm a #FLOSS advocate and am always searching for useful, portable, lightweight #libre #software. Am happy to share recommendations on favorite #programs and #libraries.

Another useful #writing tool I almost forget to mention is wc. You'll find it on #Linux and #BSD distros. On Windows, #msys and #cygwin offer a version. There are several implementations of wc out there including versions in Busybox and Toybox. If you want to build it yourself or modify it, sbase has a straight forward version:

Remove uric acid from joints and get rid of gout!

❗️ As you know, cucumber juice is very effective in lowering body temperature, and it also has a high alkalizing ability and effectively removes uric acid and its crystals from the joints.

❗️ This mixture is excellent for removing toxins, while celery and especially ginger reduce inflammation.

❗️ We will need: juice 1 medium-sized cucumber, 2 celery pods, half a lemon, and a 2.5 cm young ginger root.
Preparation: First of all, peel the ingredients. Cut the cucumber and celery into small pieces. Cut the lemon in half, take one part and squeeze it into the blender bowl, and put the other part in the refrigerator. Chop the ginger root. Blend all the ingredients and drink the mixture once or twice a day until you feel the results.
For those aches
I made a batch of pineapple skin tea using black strap, ginger, cayenne pepper and cinnamon.
It's not perfect yet, but very drinkable.
It's got loads of bromelain for anti-inflammation.

You can triple up on anti-inflammation with Advil-products and birch bark (Betulin).

My birch bark tea recipe:
1 teaspoon birch bark (very bitter)
3 teaspoons rose hips
5 teaspoons chamomile
You'll heat and can drink directly, but the rose hips will not dissolve enough for the first batch. Still pleasant flavor, but bitter; you might add honey to the first few cups.
Refill w/ water and let seep for as long as two days. You can heat, pour and drink as you like, just keep topping up more water.

In New York teens were stealing cars and trying to run people over. Luckily the guy was armed and shot one of them. So far he hasn't been charged and hopefully it stays that way.

Good news, bad news in Chiraq. A man tried to come in through the bathroom window while a girl was showering. The girl ran out and got her mom. The mom threatened to shoot the man unless he left. He chose to continue trying to come through the window so she shot him. Police arrested him and while the mom isn't being charged she did have her gun confiscated. Hopefully she gets it back soon as I can only imagine what Chiraq is like unarmed.

The Linux Libre kernel has been updated to version 6.11. A whole bunch more blobs had to be removed to keep it fully libre. This continues to be one of the best kernels to use if privacy and security are your top concerns as it keeps closed source blobs to a miniumum that do God knows what. Updated my NovaCustom NV41 earlier today with no issues.

The main website for the project is located here:

fsfla.org/ikiwiki/selibre/linu

A good writeup of the release can be found here at 9-5 Linux:

The release notes for this update are available here:

It seems that the Linux kernel is getting even worse when it comes to how it includes non free code. Part of the release notes for 6.11 libre kernel is the following:

"# Bad news

When preparing 6.11-rc7-gnu, tutor Alex caught a long sequence of numbers that looked suspicious, contacted the contributor of the new driver, and got confirmation that it was indeed executable code generated from unreleased source code.

Back when upstream started adding binary blobs to Linux, they were argued to be separate programs, under different licenses. But this new one was contributed explicitly under the GNU GPL, so, as long as its source code remained unavailable, it could not be distributed at all.

The contributor agreed, and immediately proceeded to address the legal problem, posting patches to move the blob out. Unfortunately, the top maintainer of Linux doesn't seem to have seen a problem there, and proceeded to the final release without the fix.

IANAL, but even as a penguin I understand that distributing it that way fails to comply with the requirements of the stated license, and can thus get your license automatically terminated. So, those of you who plan on distributing that release, watch out and stay out of trouble!

Even more unfortunately, a deeper problem remains: the program that must be loaded onto the device for it to work remains nonfree, so the device remains incompatible with the freedoms that all users deserve.

# Good news

On the good side, that binary blob can still be obtained from upstream under the GNU GPLv2, so anyone interested in it can proceed to legally reverse engineer it, and get us all one more Free piece of firmware."
