The EU is moving forward with #eIDAS despite warnings from over 500 scientists & privacy advocates.

With no requirement that server-side code be released open source, we cannot be sure that our personal data is secure.😱

Thankfully, the #Pirates 🏴‍☠️ in the EU Parliament did manage to push for an #opensource release of the client-app & the eID will be voluntary.

This isn't over. EU citizens please contact your representatives and demand they respect our #privacy !🥊

Notes on porting #KDE Android apps to Qt 6 and KDE Frameworks 6: volkerkrause.eu/2023/11/11/kf6

Getting closer to finally switching Itinerary to Qt 6 as well.

I got a message recently that I am willing to bet many FOSS projects can resonate with. The Matrix server I use may be shutting down in the next few months because for a while now donations are only covering about 4% of the monthly expenses and the person overseeing it can't keep covering 96% of the expenses themselves. I'll be able to find a new server if this happens but the principle takeaway should be that if you use a FOSS project every day and you are able to please donate to it. So many projects are just scraping by or worse despite having enough users that if all of them gave even $1 a month things could be so much better.
This week's donation was to Peter Levi. Among other projects he contributes to "Variety" which is a FOSS wallpaper changing program. Much of his work is licensed using GPLv3.0.

Variety has a website here:

Peter has a profile at Github:

If you wish to donate to Peter to help contribute to his work you can do so through Paypal and Bitcoin:

Fun fact: if you want to develop #FreeSoftware for #macOS, #Apple has made it so difficult for your users to run it (they have to intentionally bypass several "security" systems) that you are basically forced to pay them $99 a year to "notarize" your code if you want your users to have a good experience and trust your app.

Does this actually improve the security of macOS? No.

Does it make Apple absolute mountains of cash? Yes.

Canada's top technology officer lied to MPs on the ArriveCAN app boondoggle, according to a high-ranking public servant.

One year after installing my instance, I am now the technical lead for the project, acting as the CTO of Mastodon gGmbH, recruited a full time devops person, and spending (too much?) time trying to fix everything I can to ensure the project continues to move forward and improve day after day.

What a ride! But it is a very enjoyable one, I am feeling so useful and I am meeting wonderful people 🥰

Let's go for the second year, it can’t get busier, isn’t it? 😃
