@dave Yours lol

I've noticed it first on instances (I remember this being a thing back in the olden days of ) and , and IIRC a few instances have it too.

@realcaseyrollins Well my first guess was the instances were doing it for clout (to seem more active than they actually are), but I doubt @alex would have anything like that installed, so it's almost certainly just some ancient glitch.

@dave @realcaseyrollins I have no explanation for that. If you click the number, what does it show? The counter in the UI should be based on real boosts reported.

@realcaseyrollins @dave Waiting to receive my confirmation email from gameliberty.club so I can have a look

@realcaseyrollins @dave I still don't know why it's happening, but I believe it may be related to gameliberty.club. The status data is here: gameliberty.club/api/v1/status

You can indeed see `reblog_count: 5`. This means 5 is reported by the database of gameliberty.club. However, it doesn't seem like this number of being reported by us through the API or through federation.

From my understanding only a status itself is federated to other servers. The statistics are a separate object and don't get federated. Each server tracks its own statistics for each post.

Maybe the server is being spammed, or there's some other bug happening.

@dave Oh if it was for clout @a most certainly did it on purpose, and @alex just didn't catch it
