Anti-queer violence mention

Here's *my* problem with when there's only gay people who are indistinguishable from straight people in media representation or in certain professions

It pre-absolves the straights when there's violence committed against us

"Yeah but what were you doing when they started threatening you? You'd probably be safer if you were less in-your-face about it"

Or like the prof who was like "You know if you kept your Twitter profile 'professional,' you wouldn't be told to kill yourself"

Queer representation for straight comfort enables straight violence against queers

Some guy in the Eaton Centre in Montreal once got right in my face and made threatening gestures toward me and my bf

And whenever I tell people that this happened

The response is *always*

"But what were you doing?"

The implication is that if I had just made myself a bit smaller, more invisible, gone back into the closet slightly and patted the straight people on the head and told them "everything is already perfect," that wouldn't have happened

FUCK THAT

Isn't it usually an assumption of wrongdoing or provocation on your part? That's just my guess tbh.
