I just basically got kicked off an instance for "undermining" BLM (the admin's words), so you people get to put up with me until I find somewhere else.
@realcaseyrollins @mikey lain lol let's all love lain

seems this drama runs dry tho as he wasn't kicked of anything

snooze

@Ox
He wasn't technically kicked off, he wanted to use , , or and the admin said if he used it he would be "no longer welcome here"
@mikey

@realcaseyrollins @mikey fair enough tbh it's their instance . at least they fairly stated their view and didn't just delete account without saying anything.
@Ox @realcaseyrollins Yeah. As I told essie, "Your house, your rules." I don't agree with the rule, so I felt it best to move my opinions to somewhere they would be allowed.

@mikey @Ox

Two good sources of Free Speech Instances, which will basically let you say anything you want:

fuckgab.com/
wowana.me/fediverse.xht

Imma assume you only case care instances (however, any instance that claims it only bans "explicitly hate-based speech" like might work for you too); here are my recommendations:

fedi.absturztau.be/main/friend
neckbeard.xyz/main/all
pl.smuglo.li/main/all

Although, some notes: the neckbeard community is kinda annoying, I block them every once in awhile because they love to tag me in hellthreads. Also, GNU/Smug has some loli porn, I think, so if you don't like loli porn and aren't very good at ignoring the local instance community you might wanna go elsewhere.

@realcaseyrollins @Ox I looked through the wowana.me list before deciding on FSE. Neckbeard was my 2nd choice, I've never been a big fan of Smug, and I want something I can spell. 😁 (SPC was another backup option, but I'd prefer one I can say in polite company.)

Eventually, I'd like to self-host, but that'll have to wait until I get a steady source of income.
@mikey @realcaseyrollins @Ox

It's cheaper than you might expect. Husk runs on a $5 VPS with a $2 domain name.
@realcaseyrollins @Ox @mikey i didnt say that? i never implied i was kicking him off and never intended to, i said i dont want those things specifically on the instance as i personally think its unhelpful and harmful, especially during a time like this, and i dont want to facilitate it. please dont twist my words.
@essie @realcaseyrollins @Ox I'm sorry. As I said earlier in the thread, I was exaggerating for drama purposes.

I stand by my statement in this thread, however. As my stance on this issue is unwelcome at LALL, I can't feel welcome there.
@realcaseyrollins @essie @Ox I appreciate the support, but please don't pile on. I respect essie's decision, even if I disagree with it, and I'd like to leave it at that.
@realcaseyrollins @Ox @mikey are you really bored enough to be picking arguments over an amicable disagreement

nice drama fishing but you ought to be more subtle
@realcaseyrollins @essie @Ox Perhaps, but you did have a somewhat accusatory tone. I'm willing to live and let live. Yes, my initial post was passive-aggressive, but that's on me. I respect the LALL admins enough to give them acknowledgments in two of my novels, so I'm not going to antagonize them without cause.
@essie @realcaseyrollins @Ox @mikey saying you disagree with something is wholly different from saying that you want an opinion to be vacated from your instance because you're afraid of being negatively associated with it

i dont find that to be an admirable quality and i hope you're able to give your users more free reign over the opinions they can express, and be able to detach your personal opinions from your administrative duties
@essie @Ox @mikey @realcaseyrollins and before mikey says anything, im not "piling on" here, im taking personal issue with essie's approach. doesnt matter who she did this to, i dont welcome that sort of attitude toward running a platform
@wowaname @Ox @essie @realcaseyrollins That's fair. I only took exception to the tone @realcaseyrollins used, which I perceived as antagonistic and defensive.
@wowaname @essie @mikey @realcaseyrollins well good thing it's not your platform and not your problem then..
@Ox @essie @mikey @realcaseyrollins well good thing i can still express my damned opinion regardless

youre one to indirectly suggest others to shut up
@essie @Ox @mikey @realcaseyrollins im within my means to disagree with you and still allow you to have whatever opinions i disagree with. thats the point im driving home, somewhat ironically at this point, considering i disagree with your moderation stance
@essie @realcaseyrollins @Ox @mikey
i didn't *say* that. i only implied it. strongly.

lall is a gay instance. if you want to have any semblance of free speech, forget about all instances oriented toward homo sex, trannies and feminism, and all mastodon instances.

fse and kiwifarms are decent
@wowaname @Ox @essie @mikey @realcaseyrollins they should not be using it. can't imagine a little pleroma instance needing a corporate cdn anyway

@tuxcrafting @nik @Ox @meowski @mikey @essie Should've guessed it from the name tbh but I like to try and assume the best from the jump, not the worst

@realcaseyrollins @tuxcrafting @Ox @meowski @mikey @essie look just cause essie likes girls more than she should doesn't mean anything

I'm in a straight relationship, I'm not part of the prpblem
@realcaseyrollins @Ox @mikey

"Let's all love Lain" -- It's a reference to the anime Serial Experiments Lain, which is worth watching, and I think you'd get a kick out of it personally. You should try it. I noticed this earlier, what sort of an instance are you looking for Mikey? Have you considered self-hosting?
@death @realcaseyrollins @Ox See, I always thought the Lain in Let's All Love Lain was the Pleroma dev. Then again, that Lain is named after the anime one, so...

What I'm looking for I already said in my reply to @realcaseyrollins . I've thought about self-hosting, and I'd like to do so in the future, but I'm unemployed right now, so the disposable income needed for a server is...not there, unfortunately.
@mikey @Ox @realcaseyrollins

FSE is a very nice instance. @p is good admin, and - for the userload - it runs impressively well.
@death @Ox @p @realcaseyrollins Naturally, I start getting "Error fetching updates" errors right as this post comes in
@mikey @Ox @p @realcaseyrollins

Using the web-apps feel clunky after you get push notifications working with a mobile client as well, esp. on crowded nodes. (Honestly, if they handled the disconnect / reconnect quietly at first in the front-end you wouldn't notice as much of the odd flickering in the wires anyway.)
@death @Ox @p @realcaseyrollins I use Fedilab on my phone, but I'm more often at my PC. Typing is much, much easier on a real keyboard.
@mikey @death @Ox @realcaseyrollins Yeah, sorry about that. High error rate (0.14%) because we have been having higher than usual load lately.
@death @Ox @mikey @realcaseyrollins Because this is a wonderful town. The ideal place, almost.

But do not go to West LA if you can avoid it.
